Tips For Treating Pet Stains
Having a four-legged friend is a great way to brighten up your life, but accidents come with pet ownership, and if you are dealing with a carpet, runner or rug, those accidents can lead to pet stains. As a leading carpet cleaning option, our team knows a thing about pet treatments and here are a few tips for treating pet stains.
Vinegar and Water
One of the best cleaners for pet stains is a natural solution. Vinegar and water are excellent cleaners around the house and can even be used to lift pet stains if they are still decently fresh. You will want to combine one cup of water, one cup of vinegar and two tablespoons of baking soda. To lift the stain, you will want to spray enough that the padding underneath gets some of the solutions and leave it for 15 minutes. Then you will want to blot with a towel and then vacuum.
Be quick; clean it up as soon as possible
You must act fast if you notice a dog or cat urinating on a carpet. You will want to use paper towels and remove as much of the liquid as possible as quickly as possible. You will also need to continue to blot the spill and avoid rubbing it in.
Avoid steam cleaners
We have seen our fair share of clients who have used steam cleaners and treating a pet stain is not a good idea. Steam cleaners get some kinds of spills out of carpets, but for pet urine, they bind the protein found in the urine to the carpet fibers. This means no matter what you have in mind, that stain stays for the life of the carpet.
If you use a bleach-based product, RINSE!
Some household and many pet-related cleaners contain bleach, chlorine, and many other harmful chemicals that could do more harm than good. Although they could be great at lifting the stain, you will also want to remove the chemicals that come with the cleaner. To do so, you will want to rinse the area with warm water and then blot it with a tower to lower the possibility of damage.
Test hydrogen peroxide first
If you want to use hydrogen peroxide, you should test a small carpet area before cleaning the entire rug. This is because hydrogen peroxide can damage some fibers, and you do not want to accidentally bleach your whole carpet after cleaning up a pee.
